Orientation programs for grade 8 learners

The program focuses on the integration of grade 8 learners at a new school. The main focus is to welcome grade 8 learners and make them feel accepted in their new school. Therefore we do not only focus on ice breakers and getting acquainted with each other, but on teach the values of the school and imprint it in their lives. This program is unique to every school with unique outcomes for each learner.

In our Platinum option we train the Grade 12 leaders in a focused leadership development program and use them as co-facilitators during the Grade 8 orientation program.

How it works:

Each program is unique to every school. We contact the teachers who are involved in the integration of the grade 8's, in advance and determine what the schools’ needs are. We then develop a unique program for the school’s grade 8 learners, which will soon make them feel at home in their new school.

The guidelines and outcomes can include the following:

  • Make the grade 8 learner part of the greater school story
  • Fun activities to make new friends and get to know other learners
  • School values are laid down and are practically represented.
  • Begin to dream over their future

 There are three options:

  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum

Silver

This is a 4 hour program and consists of activities on the sport grounds or in the hall. The group will be divided in teams to participate in different activities. We use the grade 12 leaders as co-facilitators. By doing this the grade 8 learners get to know the school leaders in a fun and quick way.

Gold

This program is a more intensive 6 hour program and consists of a number of activities that are focused on the development of values in the group as well as team building. We use the grade 12 leaders as co-facilitators. By doing this the grade 8 learners get to know the school leaders in a fun and quick way. In this program we focus on the good values and team building for the entire group.

Platinum

This program runs over two consecutive days (first day 2 hours and second day 6 hours). The first day only the Grade 12 leaders will be present. This session focuses on the development of good values and teamwork for the group. Under the guidance of the Valutrix facilitators the leaders plan and develop their own unique program for the new grade 8 group. Here we teach the leaders new skills in project planning – skills they can use for the rest of their lives.  The second day is all about the grade 8 learners. The program will be facilitated by the newly trained grade 12 leaders, under the guidance of the Valutrix facilitators. In this way the grade 8 learners get to know their leaders, the school and the identity of the school in a fast and fun way. The great value of this program is that the leaders get practical training in leadership, group work, facilitating and reflection. This program not only bonds the grade 8 group with the school and its unique identity, but the leaders receive tools to use the remainder of the year and as well as something they can use the rest of their lives.
